  • Show Friendly HTTP Error Messages
    By default Internet Explorer will show a friendly version of any HTTP errors it receives, for example Error 404 Page Moved. This tweak controls that functionality allowing it to be enabled or disabled.

    When you browse a Windows 95, 98 or Me machine from a Windows XP computer extra time is taken to determine if any scheduled tasks or printers are enabled on the destination computer.

    The ICMP Router Discovery Protocol (IRDP) comes enabled by default for Windows clients using DHCP. This can be a security issue because by spoofing IRDP Router Advertisements, an attacker can remotely add default route entries on a remote system.

    Quick Edit allows you to easily cut and paste text in the command prompt window using the mouse. The ability to use the Edit menu options is still possible.

    Command completion allows you to type a portion of a file name, and then have the system complete the rest by pressing the specified key. This is similar to the UNIX shell command completion feature. when you type the first part of a filename then press the specified key, Windows will complete the filename for you.   • Disable Windows Installer Rollback
    This restriction stops Windows Installer from recording the original state of the system and sequence of changes it makes during installations. This restriction is designed to reduce the amount of temporary disk space required to install programs. Once this setting is applied, Windows Installer cannot restore the computer to its original state if the installation does not complete.

  • Disable Image Preview
    When you open an image file in Windows XP the default action is to "Preview" it using the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. This tweak can be used to disable the Preview image option. This will only remove Preview for image formats that are associated with an alternate viewer. File types that are associated with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer will still show the Preview option.

    This setting is used to disable the use of the recycle bin and permanently remove all deleted items instead. This enables the same functionality as holding the Shift key while deleting items.

    These settings control the default tools used for Windows disk management including Backup, Defrag and Cleanup. Changing these values will alter the programs used when you right-click a disk in Computer and select Properties > Tools.     The NTFS File System in Windows XP automatically attempts to locate broken shortcut destinations by searching all paths that are associated with it. This setting can be used to disable that feature.

    Even when you have configured Windows to display all file extensions, there are still some which remain hidden. This allows potentially dangerous files to be masked as safe files, fooling the user into executing them. This tweak helps expose those file extensions.
